Meet the mamas of work it like a mother

Meeting moms who share the same similar interest as you, is so awesome! I’m so glad I came in contact with these 2 bad ass mamas. Megan & Melissa are two moms who also have a fitness blog. They are located on the east coast, and they are a team of 2 mamas who motivate and inspire other mamas as well! I had the opportunity to do a little interviewing with them so I could share a little bit about them with my followers!

Can you introduce yourself?

Our names are Meghan & Melissa and we are Work It Like A Mother.  We focus on fitness and healthy living for working moms. We are local to the Greater Philadelphia Area, where we visit a variety of gyms, studios, and fitness boutiques and write all about our experiences. Our goal is to encourage and motivate working moms to find and continue to exercise.

 

Why did you start your blog?

We are both moms to toddlers, (Meghan has a 2.5 year old daughter and Melissa has a 4 year old daughter and 18 month old son) and we have found that it is so hard to not only get your pre-baby body back, but to balance everything. We wanted to make it easier for moms to workout by providing them with all of the information we are able. 

 Why is it important for you to have fitness in your life?

Fitness has always been important to us, not only for our physical health, but for our mental health.  It is an escape from reality, and a time just for us. 

 

How do you find time to balance fitness & mom life?

Luckily for us, we both have supportive husbands. Without them, we don’t know how we would be able to balance fitness and mom life. We also try to schedule our fitness classes around our family time, whether it be early in the morning before the kids are awake, or later at night around bedtime. Being moms is our biggest priority, but we also know it is so important to take care of ourselves too. A healthy mommy is a happy mommy!

 

How do you stay motivated to workout?

Two things come to mind: results and accountability.  The results we see from our fitness journey are undeniable. We are stronger, leaner, fitter, and happier (maybe even less crazy)!  We also hold each other accountable. If one of us is working out, the other one is motivated to join. We push each other to be our best. It helps tremendously to have a workout buddy. 

 

What is your favorite at home workout?

Core work - planks, crunches, etc.  These are great for us to do at home because you don’t need any equipment and they are so effective!  We actually just started a 7 day plank challenge for us and our followers. See it here.

 

How has your fitness journey changed since becoming a mom?

We are more efficient. We don’t have the flexibility and time that we used to, so when we have an hour to work out, we make sure it’s worth it. We have a post coming out in a week or so that talks about exactly this!

 

What is your favorite type of workout?

We can say this with 100% certainty… barre. We can never get enough barre. The small and low impact movements, the stretching, the increased flexibility, balance, and stamina, barre has it all!   Taking a couples barre class with our husbands and realizing how hard of a workout it really is, makes it so worth it.

 

What is your favorite muscle group to workout?

 Our core. This is an area we felt we lost by having babies, so we are continuously trying to work to get our strength back.
